THE LAKE CLINIC CAMBODIA A Cambodian NGO
At the present time The Lake Clinic has two programs:
1. The planning and implementation of a Lake Clinic which will provide dental, medical and health education services to tens of thousands of people living on or at the edge of the Tonle Sap lake.
The Tonle Sap is the largest lake in Southeast Asia and is studied for its incredible biodiversity. However few health services are provided for the families who live there. Consequently, The Lake Clinic program will offer easily observed and recognizable services such as dental treatment and education concerning oral hygiene. Education in other areas of family health and wellness will be offered as well. Medical services will include the Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI).
2. The Women's Center in Siem Reap will provide a program of health education, including mother and child wellness, a psychosocial program addressing depression, the creation of a community referral service directory. And most important, the establishment of an advisory committee, empowering Khmer women to have a forum for discussion of their needs.
In the future the Women's Center anticipates offering periodontal screening and treatment for pregnant women, an addition to the dental program offered on the Lake Clinic on the Tonle Sap. The Women's Center, located in the main office of The Lake Clinic Cambodia, in Siem Reap, will provide an opportunity to evaluate groups and find ways of adapting them to the Lake Clinic health education program and the IMCI program which will help the families living on the Tonle Sap.
